Finally back in the water
16th October 2010
After some five weeks of utter frustration, Impressions was finally up and running on 24th September. After a major overheating problem I had stripped and rebuilt the offending engine and the boat was relaunched on Friday 27th August in time to cover the Cowes-Torquay race. Unbelievably, the engine was still overheating! It took a further three weeks and a great deal of money to eventually discover that the engineering firm which overhauled the cylinder head had plugged up some vital cooling holes. The Volvo KAD engines are basically lorry units adapted for marine use and the machine shop had not realised that in the boat version, water must flow into the exhaust manifold. Oh well, it's all sorted now, but sadly the best of the summer has gone and we're faced with taking photos on cold, grey days. 16.10.10
